  • This article studies the origin and meaning of the word "văn hiến" (文獻) from the perspective of historical linguistics and etymology. The surveyed corpus includes modern Vietnamese dictionaries, and Chinese corpus in Confucian classics, as well as Sinitic literary from the 15th to the 19th century. Research results show that "văn hiến" is a Sino-Vietnamese word with the original meaning of "books/ cannons and talented people" in Song Confucian classics.   • In the early 10th century, Vietnam gained independence after nearly 1.000 years under the rules of the Chinese dynasties. At the beginning of the administrative reconstruction, the dress of the mandarin class, although newly regulated, was deeply influenced by the acculturation process from China.   • Question is one of the popular sentence types in Nguyễn Du's three collections of classical Chinese poetry. Questions performed many functions and expressed different psychological states of the poet, such as doubts, worries, fatigue, dissatisfaction, and indignation, among other things. Questions were associated with his journey of finding self and releasing hidden personal thoughts, finding peace in an unknown space and time, finding a distant and illusory soulmate, and re-evaluating life's values. They reflected his insecurity in an unstable world.
